My background is in education and have been a Computer Science teacher for 12 years. I am currently the director of a sixth form in school in North London and also an independent mortgage and Protection advisor. I decided to complete the CeMAP qualification as I always had an interest in finance and after going through the process of buying my first home I wanted to be able to help others get on the property ladder.
Buying my first home with my fiance 7 years ago was one of the most exciting but stressful times as I didn’t have a clue where to start. After starting our family there are also a number of ways to protect your income and your family that I wasn’t previously aware of. I found that it wasn’t something you could shop online for and you really need expert advice from someone who has gone through the same process.
There are so many questions and areas to look at as a first time buyer, even an experienced owner and landlord. These include:
• How much deposit do I need?
• Once I find a property I like what do I do?
• How much will I be paying each month?
• How much can I borrow?
• How long will my mortgage last?
• What’s the difference between a fixed, tracker or variable rate mortgage?
• What is a valuation and survey?
• Do I need a solicitor and how much do they cost?
• Do I need insurance?
• What types of insurance policies are there?
In my later posts and articles I will be answering these questions and providing information on how to get your first or next property.
